The ThinkBook G8 is even slimmer and lighter than its predecessor. The housing is completely made of aluminum in a modern Arctic Gray color. The ThinkBook 14 G8 weighs only 1.36 kg and is 17.5 mm thin, while the 16-inch variant stays around 1.7 kg. This makes the G8 ideal for professionals who travel a lot or commute between office and home. The G7 was already light and portable, but the G8 feels even more robust and luxurious.
Performance and hardware
The ThinkBook G8 is equipped with the latest Intel Core Ultra processors, such as the Ultra 5 225U and Ultra 7 255H. These chips offer more computing power and are optimized for AI applications, making heavy business tasks like data analysis, video conferencing and multitasking run more smoothly. You get 16GB DDR5 RAM as standard (expandable to 64GB) and lightning-fast PCIe 4.0 SSDs up to 1TB. You can choose between integrated Intel Graphics or Intel Arc Graphics, depending on the model.
The ThinkBook G7 also offered powerful performance with Intel Core Ultra processors and energy-efficient NPUs, but the G8 clearly delivers more speed, better AI integration and higher energy efficiency.
Display and visual comfort
The ThinkBook G8 series delivers a significant upgrade in screen quality. You can choose from a standard WUXGA (1920x1200) IPS screen with 300 nits brightness and 45% NTSC color gamut, or a high-end 2.8K (2880x1800) IPS panel with 120 Hz refresh rate and full sRGB coverage. Both models offer a 16:10 aspect ratio, anti-glare coating and TÜV Eyesafe certification. This makes them ideal for extended use, graphics work and video meetings.
The ThinkBook G7 also offered various screen options, including high-definition and 2.8K resolution, but the G8 offers a higher refresh rate and better color reproduction in the high-end models.
Security and business features
The ThinkBook G8 is equipped with the latest security options, such as a fingerprint reader, TPM 2.0 chip, optional IR camera for facial recognition and a physical privacy shutter for the webcam. New is the self-healing BIOS, which automatically restores important settings and data when problems occur. The Kensington Nano Security Slot is also present for physical security.
The G7 offered comparable security options, but the G8 offers more AI-driven security and data recovery, which is especially a big plus for business users and SMB companies.
Connectivity and ports
The ThinkBook G8 features an extensive port selection: Thunderbolt 4/USB4, multiple USB-A and USB-C ports, HDMI 2.1 (4K 60Hz), RJ45 Ethernet, SDXC card reader and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Wirelessly you benefit from WiFi 6 or 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. This allows you to easily connect business accessories, such as docking stations, monitors, printers and servers.
The G7 also had many ports, but the G8 offers faster standards and more flexibility for hybrid work.
Battery and sustainability
The battery capacity of the G8 varies from 45 to 60 Wh, good for a full working day. The laptop meets the strict MIL-STD 810H standard for durability and is partly made from recycled material. The G8 is also more energy efficient thanks to ENERGY STAR 8.0, EPEAT Gold and TCO Certified 10.
The G7 was already sustainable, but the G8 is even more energy efficient and environmentally friendly produced.
